The Rain Barrel Project

The Rain Barrel Project is an environmental initiative sponsored by the Leadership Team from Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do, Manitowoc

The inspiration for the project came from a new martial arts organization called The One Hundred (created by Mr. Tom Callos) that seeks to redefine “self-defense” to include peace education, environmentalism, sustainability, and community activism.

Each member school of The One Hundred has made a solemn commitment to an extraordinary code of conduct, an engaged practice of the martial arts on and off of the mat, and an extensive course of community involvement/service.

Members are tasked to plan, execute, and record 1000 community-based projects, to teach peace education, to engage in environmental self-defense, and to live their practice as an example to their students, members of their communities, and to all people who expect authenticity and self-discipline from teachers who have committed their life to the practice of the martial arts.

As a member of The One Hundred, Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do teaches not only the skills of physical self defense, but seeks to broaden the definition of what self-defense is and make it more relevant to today’s world.

Hallman-Lindsay donated the paint for rain barrels which were painted by students from Jefferson Elementary School and McKinley Academy. Proceeds from the sale of the barrels were donated to the Angels Volunteer Association at the Manitowoc Health & Rehab Center.
